Production in the world's traditional paper-making regions fell slightly last year

The Paper Industry Federation of Europe (CEPI) has released the latest statistics for the pulp and paper industry in Europe. In 2012, pulp and paper production in Europe continued to be negatively impacted by the economic downturn that began in mid-2011, but operations continued to perform better than other energy-intensive industries in Europe. The European paper industry is looking for a healthy balance between supply and demand and modernising the industry to remain competitive.

In 2012, CEPI member countries' production was similar to that of the United States, Japan and South Korea, the world's other major traditional paper producers. Only China and Brazil fared better.
